Viha-rakkaus / Love-Hate

Toivottavasti unista.

Greetings from the rollercoaster of feelings! However I love my job, I still make stupid mistakes when I'm tired. I just watched some Instagram photo I took about a week ago, and noticed that two of three almost finished works will return back to the starting point, as well as probably quite a many other works that I thought were just about finished. (I just don't dare to go and check the situation right now. I have to sleep it over - if then I could think more clearly in morning.) At some point probably a few drops of titanium white has been mixed with the lacquer. Those works, earlier so satin glossy clear are now like sitting behind opal glas. This has happened especially to those dark based, the most hardest and difficult artworks. I don't think I can remove the lacquer layers without losing the work with process, but somehow I just have to find some faith for tomorrow. Hopefully I can find it in my dreams.

Ihanaa olla töissä! // I just love to work again!

I'm so happy to work again! Somehow the time preceeding Christmas with all events and happenings was so splittered, that even though I could work ok with my exhibition artworks, the Christmas itself just felt more or less just an annoyance in my flow. Two-three days off-work were also sort of nice forced holidays, but in a way they weren't: I was thinking about my work all the time and my brain battled with the solutions for the small problems I've had - and I found myself getting irritated when I just couldn't go and test my ideas and solutions rightaway. Sometimes you just wish that you could switch your brain to off mode and just be without thinking the ongoing processes, but in my life so far I have never succeeded in that, even after several tryings. And the holidays don't feel holidays when they are placed in a wrong moment.

And what happened: yesterday, when I was meant to continue my work, I was sick. I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't do anything else but to lie down with a deep knowledge of all parts of my hurting head. Maybe it was just a migraine, more harder than normally, and luckily (hopefully) also shorter than normally. I started this day still a bit shaky, but at least the headache is gone. And getting to work again - itself - has helped a lot. I don't remember when was the last time I was this relieved and happy as I was today when I opened the lid of the lacquer jar this morning.

Vuoden viimeiset myyjäiset / The last market of the year

Oikein Aikuisten Motiivit. :)

Yesterday I took part for the Jyväskylä Designtori for the first time. I haven't even visited the event before, so I actually didn't know anything about what to expect. I was totally lazy in all preparations. My next exhibition at the Gallery Ratamo has taken all my attention, and the preparation works for the exhibition are playing in my head constantly, even I wasn't physically doing the job. I just took the same bags to Designtori which I had in Christmas Bazaar the week before, only added those selfmade notebooks. Just a few days before the event I came to think about the table: I have had a custom size plywood covers for the tables, but I realized that because the space size was smaller than in previous events I have used the tables, I couldn't position the tables same way - and thus I couldn't use the plywood covers. I didn't find time to look for any table cloths either, but I knew that I wanted to hide the chaos of Claes Ohlson and Biltema bags under my table. So: I got a roll of brown packaking paper from the postoffice, and covered the table with it. It was a well working and very practical solution. But I was mildly amused of my diy set when I took a round at the event later and saw every other table that were... - well, what's the opposite for diy? :D

But in all: it was a great day! Everything worked fine, I met totally new people and custormers, and it was chilly enough to keep fresh through the event. But also, it was the last event of the long and busy autumn, and after getting back home, I just felt how my powers weakened. Yesterday I just watched some scifi movie in half-sleep, but even after twelve hours of sleep I'm not really energized. Today I had planned to clean a little bit, but I'm not sure if I have it in me to even empty those bags? (And I'm not really talking about any Christmas mega cleaning, but just an ordinary "weekly cleaning" - all of them for October, November and December in one time - if we only could managed to tidy a bit before the Christmas holidays...) I guess I have to try. A good motive is PS4 with Ratchet & Clank game. We agreed that we would install the game console that we bought a few days ago, just after the house is first tidied.

Really a Grown-Up Motive :)

Vihkotehtaassa töissä / Working at the notebook factory

---

In between this posting and the last one before it there has happened a lot worth telling about: I visited Raahe and set up my exhibition 'Where the Wind Stopped' at the Gallery Myötätuuli (what a wonderful trip that was!), and after that I was at the Jyväskylä Art Museum Christmas Bazaar last weekend (amazing weekend), and I started a small scale notebook factory!

Well, not really factory. For some time now I've grown my pile of different kind of proof and test prints on my closet: these cannot be sold, and after the print series is finished, I really don't have any use for colour sample prints and other note-like proof prints, but somehow I just don't dare to trash the expensive paper materials. For a couple of years time I have cutted the larger prints into 17x17cm pieces to be used as base for a series of unique prints later, but I haven't found any use for those smaller left over pieces. Before I realized that the paper is strong enough to be used as a cover material for little notebooks. So, there I go.

I will take these notebooks with me to the Jyväskylä Designtori event next Saturday (December 17, 2016 from 10am to 4pm at the Pergamenttihalli at Kangas, Jyväskylä; FB event page), as well as some of my prints, Värikki recycled wax crayons and other small stuff.

Kyynelpuuta kasvattamassa / Growing up the Tree of Tears

Ihana lauantai.

I love this Saturday. Today I finally got to work with my Tree of Tears project. Last week I bought some titanium white from Helsinki, as well as Iridescent pigment by Sennelier (including mica, which is the nacre / mother-of-pearl in shellfish). Timo has been helping me by cutting me right-sized plywood pieces, and I've already rubbed them with pigment and made the first lacquer layer. They are not nearly to be finished soon, and I know it's only about one month until my exhibition at the Gallery Ratamo will open, but starting the project already eased my anxiety so much, that even breathing feels more lighter. I'm making thin layers one at a time, so this will take some time, but it's so wonderful to be at the process, finally. Things are going forward, that's important.

We spent last week in Helsinki because of our Plankko Popup shifts and artist meetings. I also had a few off days: in Friday and Saturday I purchased some equipment, inks, and pigments for my project (and I left 30 Random Prints envelopes around), and I just enjoyed watching telly at the hotel room. And I met a Friend whom I hadn't seen for a quarter of decade! It's really an incomprehensible time and meeting: like there hadn't been time in between the last time we met and now. - And then, a couple of days later, another meeting like that, another Friend from the same time.

I don't know what it was - meeting those two people, very important persons me in one time, or those few free moments without any obligations, or both of them together: even though the little stress bubbling inside me didn't vanish totally, everything just turned to be more controllable and strangely my head started filling again with ideas and images. Everything is not clear yet with the exhibition starting in January, but somehow I now trust everything to go well.
