Vienosti huvittuneita monstereita... / Slightly Amused Monsters...

It has been quite a mental turbulance in my life. First good news, and then bad, repeating all the time, constantly. Here, on my way to up and then down again, I have been trying to work with my new print works and also prepare the Black Wall Gallery exhibition in Vaasa following June. Last Thursday I went to Timo's studio (via a textile shop) to test various projecting materials. The final, and the best one was found accidentally with the help of Anu Rinkinen (Popper Design): I just happened to bump into her at the hallway and told about my mission and rightaway Anu thought of mixture of viscose and linen which I should try. Projecting through it worked excellently and the surface of the textile moves the video very gently. I found a new hope after all the hard processes with this project. I was absolutely joyous during the whole evening, until my tooth broke and small piece came off. That and the following visit at the dentist are whole another story, but I was quite down and dark-minded still during this morning (I had a really good dentist and no pain at all during the procedure, but the terror sticks deep, it seems...) - until the post brought me a letter with glad news, which turned the course of this whole week to better. At midday I was sitting next to the living room window, sucking the warm sunshine in myself, and eating blinis for lunch, thinking that without these extreme feelings from sorrow and terror to joy and happines, and vice versa, my life would be much more boring.

From losing to winning - I continue with this thought with my illustration projects. A few weeks ago I made an offer for one company, of the stickers for children, but my offer / illustrations didn't get chosen. I wouldn't like to leave these Slightly Amused Monsters to my drawer, so what is the better reason to make them available as totes, t-shirts and mugs on my Society6 store (society6.com/paivihintsanen) :D

Äh. / Aargh.

Siispä tervetuloa lauantaina 18.4. klo 10-17 Tourulan taiteilijoiden tiloihin (Kivääritehtaankatu 6 A, 40100 Jyväskylä). Lue lisää sivuiltani - ja kerro kaverillekin!

Long and deep *Sigh*. For a few weeks time already I have been happy about a new technique I invented, to use damaged and test prints (paper and ink worth of hundreds of euros). I really thought that I have found a way to reuse the prints for new works. I made dozens of small tests and this new technique also brought a idea of picture series I wanted to make. But when I finally got to it... I tried all day, varied the technique, with my fingers bleeding, but it just didn't happen.

The First Big Failures were a few days ago and since I've been trying again and again, but no. How can I make myself to believe this and somehow reset my brain so, that there would be some space for another future innovation, maybe even for a working one. And soon, if my stubborness doesn't allow me to stop, all that material, worth of hundreds of euros, is soon in trash.

As a substitute act for my innovative work, I'm sitting in living room packing prints to some galleries and I'm writing my picture-poem series. I will show (and, hopefully, sell) my picture-poems for the first time at an open doors' day, which I take part to. I work mainly at home, but I make my most demanding and bigger projects at Timo Sälekivi’s studio at Tourula Artists’ House, where also my work archives are situated. So, welcome to visit us on Saturday April 18, from 10am to 5pm at the Tourula Artists' (Kivääritehtaankatu 6 A, 40100 Jyväskylä). Please read more from my website and please, spread the word.

Pitkä (työ)perjantai / Good (Working) Friday

[Puutarhasta / From the Garden I, II, III.

After having a few really over-booked weeks, filled with different jobs and processes (though not anything worth of mention happened nor anything finished to tell or show was born), my thoughts regressed back to the working mode I had earlier - of which I have tried to get rid off the whole year. That is, to that strange feeling, when the few holidays ahead are not reading "holidays" but "more time to work", and almost equally big relief comes from the fact, that I can finally finish with my undone work and write all the texts I have promised write during these days, when most of the people are not working and sending me more emails to process. (Though the projects between artists are the whole new chapter themselves, the emails from artists won't stop from coming during holidays either.)

But, nonetheless, I will skip work now, when no one is looking. I had a few colour themed lectures in Jyväskylä last month, and I truly enjoyed preparing them and also giving them (though during the first lecture I had a splitting migraine, and during the second one I had fewer and I was so tired I could barely stand - so maybe not the best show, after all.) From this short trip amongst colour I got this Enormous Urge to write about colour, and now, after holding myself back for a week and trying to force myself to the other jobs to be finished, I will now spend the whole day with colours. I really should figure out what is wrong with my email application, but it just has to wait.
