Sinisen taiassa // In Blue Magic

Joskus on onni olla oikeaan aikaan oikeassa paikassa. Kuulin kyllä etukäteen Firenzen Museo degli Argentissa esillä olevasta Lapislazzuli - Magia del Blu -näyttelystä, mutta tuolloin olimme jo tulossa kaupunkiin joka tapauksessa. En hirveästi yrittänytkään tutkia asiaa etukäteen, koska olihan se ilmiselvää, että jos jotain väriä lipovaa on kaupungissa näytteillä, niin sinne pitää mennä joka tapauksessa. Siksi näyttelyn suuruus vähän häkellyttikin: fyysiseltä kooltaan se oli aikalailla sitä mitä odotinkin (neljä suurta huonetta, sellaisia melkein saleja), mutta sisällöltään se oli kattavampi kuin olisin osannut kuvitella, vaikka olisin ennakolta perehtynytkin asiaan paremmin. Näyttelyssä oli esillä oikeastaan kaikki, mitä voi lapis lazuli -kivestä ja siitä jauhetusta ultramariini-pigmentistä näyttää. Tarinoita toki jäi kerrottavaksi näyttelyn kulissien taaksekin, mutta runsautta riitti päälle jauhettavaksi pidemmäksikin aikaa.

Sometimes I thank my luck of being in the right place at the right time. I knew beforehand of the Lapislazzuli - Magia del Blu exhibition at Museo degli Argenti in Florence, but when I learned about the exhibition, I was already coming to Florence any way. I didn't actually try to find out anything about the exhibition beforehand, because it was obvious that if there would be something colour related exhibited here, of course I would go. Because I wasn't really "prepared" myself for the exhibition, it's size overwhelmed me a bit: physically it was quite what I was expecting (four big rooms), but contentwise it was much more larger than I ever could have imagined, even if I had read more closely about the exhibition beforehand. The exhibition showed quite all that can be exhibited about lapis lazuli stone and the ultramarine pigment made of it. Of course there are still some stories that didn't make the exhibition room, but there was enough and more to learn.
