Kevätmielellä / Spring Spirit

Saimme Berliinissä etukäteismaistiaisen vihreistä puista ja lämmöstä - hiljalleen kesä alkaa hiipiä tännekin. Viime viikon aikana puihin on tulleet lehdet ja eilen oli ensimmäinen oikea kesäpäivä. Oli loistava päivä aloittaa "Kevättuuletus" Jyväskylän taiteilijaseuran Galleria Beckerissä. Vaikka olinkin talkoolaisena mukana myymässä lainaamon teoksia, niin ei mikään kyllä työltä tuntunut. Oli hienoa nähdä, että taide löysi uusiin koteihin ja erityisen hienoa oli tavata ihmisiä, jotka olivat aiemmin hankkineet tai hankkivat nyt taidettani. Galleriamyynti on yleensä niin kasvotonta, teoksen ostaja ja taiteilija kohtaavat vain harvoin, että aina näissä poikkeustilanteissa tuntee saavansa tuplasti virtaa seuraavia päiviä varten.

(Minulta oli myynnissä Poissa-installaatiossani olleet vedokset ja muutama vanhempi kehystetty teos. Teoksia meni muutama eilen ja loput jäävät Beckerille "takahuonemyyntiin" toukokuun loppuun saakka.)

Eilen Jyväskylässä järjestettiin myös Yläkaupungin yö. Työpöydälläni odotti kinkkinen nettisivudeadline, joten lähdin viiden maissa kotiin työpöydän ääreen, ja koko yön juhlinta jäi väliin. Toisaalta, katsoin etukäteen Yläkaupungin yön ohjelmasta, ettei ohjelmasta juuri tälle mielenlaadulle ollut mitään sellaista tarjottavaa, että olisin väen vängällä halunnut mennä katsomaan. Aurinkoinen ilma ulkona tosin teki sisällä työskentelystäni melkein mahdotonta. Olen ylpeä siitä, että jaksoin pitää kuria itselleni: yksi iso ongelma ainakin tuli puoliksi selvitettyä ja projekti meni ison askeleen eteenpäin. Ensi viikolla vähemmän tuskaa töiden kanssa.

Tänään sama kaunis ilma odottaa ikkunan takana. Olen pakannut luonnoslehtiön jo laukkuuni...

In Berlin we got some pre-taste of the green scenery and warmth - and slowly the summer starts to reach these northern corners too. During the last week the trees got some leaves and yesterday it was the first real summer day. It was a perfect day to start the spring sales at the gallery Becker (of the Jyväskylä Artists' Society) in Jyväskylä. Even though I was one of the voluntary workers selling art works, there was nothing that felt "work". It was great to see how artworks found their ways to new homes, and it was especially wonderful to meet people, who had bought my artworks earlier or purchased it yesterday. Usually the gallery sales are so faceless, the purchaser of the artwork and the artist meet only seldom - and that's why when these exceptions happen, you always feel double energized for the following days.

(There were the prints of my Absent installation and also a few of the older works on sale at the event. Some artworks were sold yesterday and the rest of them will be available for half a price from the gallery "back room" until the end of May.)

Yesterday there was also "Yläkaupungin yö" event ("the night at the upper city"), which is sort of a city carneval with lots of free cultural events. But I had a difficult commission web site project waiting on my workdesk, so I missed the night parties and sat next to my computer from 5pm on. On the other hand, I peeked the event programme and noticed that there weren't a lot of offering to my mindset right now - nothing that I would have wanted to go and see no matter what. The sunny weather, though, was making my work inside almost impossible. I'm so proud of myself, that I did obey myself: at least one big problem half-solved and the project took a giant step ahead. Less work-pain for next week.

Today the similar beautiful weather is waiting outside the window. I have already packed the sketch book into my bag...
