Olen näpräillyt pieniä Ovet avoinna -pinssiteoksia. Tämä pieni kolmenkymmenen uniikin pienenpienen kuvan sarja on tulossa siis ensi kertaa esille ja myytäväksi Habitareen osastolleni 3b20. Kirjoitin näistä pidemmänkin esittelyn nettisivulleni, mutta sivuni ja siten myös siellä asuva esittely ovat olleet nyt vajaan vuorokauden mykkänä, kun serverillä on joku päivityspuuha menossa. (Oletan, että ongelmaa korjataan - ja toivottavasti oikeasti korjaantuu pian, koska sivulle on aika kova tarve juuri nyt.) No, tälle epäonnekkaalle takaiskulle en voi mitään - toivon vain, että tiedon etsijät löytävät sivulleni myöhemmin. (Postauksen lopussa vielä ydininfo näistä pinssiteoksista suomeksi ja englanniksi!)
Jokaisella pienellä teoksella on oma nimensä, joka on kirjoitettu kuvan taakse. Ne ovat minulle melkein yhtä tärkeitä kuin kuvat itse. Jotkut ovat lyhyitä ja ytimekkäitä yhden sanan nimiä, jotkut melkeinpä lauseita. Vedossarjan alaotsikkona voisi hyvin olla Paluu paikkoihin joihin paeta, koska olen näiden kuvien ja niiden nimien myötä palannut myös seitsemän vuoden takaisen Paikkoja joihin paeta -kuvaparini luo. Teospari on ollut lähinnä henkinen taustamiljöö ja inspiraation lähde näille pienille kummilapsilleen - mutta nyt alkaa tuntua, että ehkä palaan teosten pariin ihan konkreettisestikin ja täydennän sarjaa uusilla teoksilla (alunperinkin Paikkoja joihin paeta oli tarkoitettu useamman kuvan sarjaksi).
Monen vanhan teossarjan pariin näköjään palailen helposti, tai ainakin suunnittelen paluuta. Sen voin kuitenkin jo luvata, että tämä Ovet avoinna -sarja on ainutlaatuinen prosessi. Ainakin tällaisenaan.
Vähän hölmöläisen hommaahan tämä on: uniikkityön tekeminen teettää käytännössä yhtä paljon työtä teki sen minkä kokoisena tahansa - mutta eihän näitä pinssinkokoisia voi uniikkityön hinnalla myydä. Jo siksikin tämä on nyt enemmän ollut yksi niistä projekteista, jotka on ollut kiva saattaa loppuun vuosikausien hauduttelun jälkeen, mutta joita ei voi oikein toisintaa (ainakaan ennenkuin se lottopotti iskee kohdalleni). Toinen syy on ihan käytännön syy: ostin joskus pienen loppuerän noita pinssikehyksiä, ja olen noita kolmeakymmentä säästellyt tätä projektia varten. Enempää varastostani löydy ja jälleenmyyjänkin valikoimista ne ovat poistuneet).

I've been making very small 'Open Doorways' badge art pieces. This series of thirty very tiny unique prints will be shown and sold for the first time in Habitare at my booth 3b20. I wrote an introduction of this project in my website, but the whole site, including the introduction, has been now down since yesterday, because they are apparently updating the servers. (I presume this problem will be solvesd soon - and hopefully it will, because I really need my webpage right now.) Well, I can't do anything about this unlucky setback - I just hope that the information seekers could find my page later. (Basic info about this project is at the end of this posting.)
Each tiny print has an unique name, which has been written behind the picture. The titles are almost as important to me as the pictures themselves. Some of them are short one word names, some other nearly sentences. The subtitle of the series could just as well be 'Return to the Places To Escape', because with these pictures and their names I've returned to my pair of prints titled 'Places to Escape' which I made seven years ago. The two works have been mostly some kind of spiritual background milieu and a source of inspiration to these small works - but now I'm slowly starting to think about returning to the artwork pair concretely, by making more prints to this old series (actually, I originally planned the 'Places to Escape' to include more pictures.)
I seem to return to my old projects quite easily and continue them in some way. But with this 'Open Doorways' project I won't be doing that: it's an unique process. At least in the way it is now.
It's a bit of fool's game to have a project like this: it really doesn't matter, if the paper is tiny or huge: it takes just as much work to make an unique work regardless of the size - but I really can't sell these badge-sized art prints for the price of an unique work. That is one of the reasons, why this has been more one of those projects that is just nice to finally get made after years of holding them back, but at the same time it is one of those projects that are not really repeatable (at least not before I hit the main prize in lottery). One other reason is a very practical one: I have been saving these 30 blank badges for my project for years. After this project I don't have any and also the company that sold me the badges don't have them in their selection anymore.

Vedokset istutettu neulalliseen pinssikehykseen, jonka voi kiinnittää takin kaulukseen, laukun läppään tai mihin tahansa tekstiiliin. Pinssikehys on läpinäkyvää muovia (myös signeerauspuoli on nähtävissä) ja se on roiskeenpitävä. Vedokseen käytetyt pigmenttimusteet kestävät kosteutta, mutta paperi voi käpristellä liiallisesta märkyydestä (= kestää kevyen kesäsateen, ei uimista.) Pigmenttien valonkesto on erinomainen, mutta viikkotolkulla kuvaa ei suorassa auringonvalossa (uv-säteilyssä) kannata säilyttää.

Technique: Museum quality pigment ink print to a high quality 305g cotton art paper (Hahnemühle PhotoRag Ultrasmooth).
Each print is titled, numbered and signed to the backside.
The prints are mounted to a badge frame (with needle), that can be attached to a coat collar, to a handbag flap or to any other textile. Badge frame is made of see-through plastic (also the signature side can be seen through) and water drop-proof. The pigment inks used in printing don't mind moisture at all, but the paper may curl up if it gets too wet (= nothing won't happen in a slight summer rain, but don't take it to swim with you.) The lightfastness of the pigment inks is excellent, but don't keep the picture in straight sunlight (UV radiation) for weeks.
