Sitä samaa, sitä samaa // The same, the same

Pullopostia I / A Message in a Bottle I

Ihan kuin eläisi jotain déjà-vuta koko ajan. Ihan samaa asiarumbaa käyn läpi nyt Rovaniemen näyttelyä valmistellessani kuin pari viikkoa sitten Tampereen näyttelyä valmistellessani, vaikka ajattelin olevani etukäteen ovela ja tehdä yhteisrysäyksessä monia asioita yhtäaikaa valmiiksi kaikkiin tuleviin näyttelyihin. Sellaisenaan puuduttavaa toistoa, mutta huomaan saavani jotenkin merkillistä hyvänolon tuntua, kun kirjoitan kaikki pikkuasiatkin listaan, ja sitten pääsen yliviivaamaan tehtyjä töitä. Ihan kuin oikeasti saisi jotain suurempaakin aikaan.

Pienet hienot jutut katkovat tasaista arkea: Raisa Jäntti kirjoitti Nokkonen-blogiinsa Tampereen Galleria Rongan näyttelystäni otsikolla Tarinoiden ketju. Siitä iloisena palaan sunnuntaisen arkeni pariin.

Like I was living all the time in some déjà-vu. I'm re-doing exactly the same things now as I'm preparing myself for the Rovaniemi exhibition, as I was doing a couple of weeks ago when I was preparing my Tampere exhibition. And I thought I was wise enough to prepare several small things for all my future exhibitions at the same time. Very boring repeating, but I find myself enjoying in a very strange way about my to do lists... I write every little job to the list and then get a good happy feeling about the fact that it is done and I get to overline the job from it. Like I was doing something very meaningful.

Also, some small things break my even everyday life: Raisa Jäntti wrote about my exhibition in her blog (in Finnish only). Glad to continue my Sunday work after reading the positive review.

Kahden vuoden prosessi // Two Years Process

Nostalgia, 2015.

Tilaa, hiljaisuutta.

Originally I planned the series 'Where the Wind Stopped' to include ten pictures, and after very difficult two year process the series is finally completed. Last year, when I continued working with the series after one year pause, I thought seriously, if the magical number of seven works would be better. I had finished the first seven pictures of the series during the previous year, 2014, and they all were finished in rather short time window, in half a years time. I had planned that the three last works of the series would be shown first at the first 'Where the Wind Stopped' exhibition at Gallery Ronga, in Tampere, on March 2016, but still I was annoyed, when the process paused last summer first because I ran out of inks and importing them took time, and then because my printer broke down, and then after the importer ran out of papers I use. In between the written lines of life I started to read hints from some bigger power, that maybe this wasn't meant to happen. Stubborn as I am, I just held on to my plan and finishing the final three works.

'Nostalgia' and 'Waiting' were finished at the end of the year 2015 and 'Dance' at the beginning of 2016. I still continued to question my original plan and the three last prints, when they were already in my hands. Did they just feel like an add-on to my previous seven works that had already formed some kind of entity themselves? And didn't the number seven feel more magical and somehow right anyway? When I packed my works to be shipped to Gallery Ronga I still thought about the possibility to leave them out of the final exhibition.

When I first stepped into the gallery, all my doubts vanished. Suddenly I had no unclarity of if the three final works wouldn't take their place in the series. As I hang the pictures, I noticed that this series formed (though originally accidentally) a new kind of wordless story, and many exhibition vernissage guests made the same observation, although there were many interpretations on the story they tell.

I always think about my exhibition as some kind of installation like artworks themselves, rather than just placing works to be shown in the gallery walls. Before Gallery Ronga exhibition (in addition to questioning the entity of the print series) I was very anxious about the space itself: I was worried if my low-tinted works will vanish into the very light gallery space and if I could build balanced exhibition in that space. It was weird how fast some kind of tranquility took over right after hanging up the first work ('A Shadow on a Concrete Wall'): the idea of the whole and how to place the artworks was suddenly very clear, I just simply *knew*, in which place each artwork belonged to.

I am very pleased with the exhibition. I didn't have to compromise with anything, and there's nothing I had done differently. This is unusually satisfying feeling. I can't put it in any other way: I am very proud of my exhibition and of the way, how the space and artworks together form something greater than themselves.

Space, silence.

Galleria Ronga, Tampere

#galleriaronga #tampere Hämäriä kuvia näyttelystä, joka on oikeasti paljon valoisampi...Shady photos from a light and airy exhibition.

Avajaiset olivat poikkeuksellisesti lauantai-päivällä johtuen omasta hankalasta aikataulustani.

I don't remember the last time when the exhibition building was so easy as it was at the Gallery Ronga in Tampere last Friday. We had to work, all right, but the process didn't turn inta mindless sixteen hour nonstop work, and even though I didn't realise to have my lunch break early enough, I was all ok after the whole process. The gallery staff did everything perfectly, I myself somehow managed to keep everything on suitable scale, and we had luck on our side in other ways too (and even coming with train did take only fifteen minutes of our time, being fashionable late again).

The vernissage was exceptionally at the Saturday afternoon, because of my own difficult schedule. I'm so glad I had enough sense not to try to fit them into Friday night, because then I wouldn't have this good feeling about the whole exhibition - yes, we would have finished the setup in time, but heart beating much faster. I'm also glad that many exhibition vernissage quests commented on that that the Saturday afternoon was much better time, they would've not managed to get there on Friday evening. I actually *enjoyed* the vernissage, which doesn't often happen. It's actually rare thing; most of the time the vernissage is too soon after the exhibition building and it just feels very heavy to have any kind of social activities then. During the last few times I've actually have had to force myself to survive the vernissage (last year at the Black Wall Gallery vernissage in Vaasa I was so ridiculously tired, that I just couldn't enjoy fully of the otherwise great vernissage, and after that at the Runonkulma gallery in Uusikaupunki I was in fever and feeling terrible, although it was a beautiful summer day and lots of people on site).

I really didn't have anything annoying about this exhibition building and vernissage, I don't even mind that there was nobody at the press event. (Well, if I had *knew*, I would have filled the beautiful large bathtab of Tammer hotel with warm water and I had taken a relaxing bath before the vernissage, so I admit that I'm a little bit irked about missing the bath... But I actually wasn't active in any manner with the press, so never mind...)

Tampere näyttely / exhibition

FACEBOOK - Please share:
https://www.facebook.com/events/814193415392610/

Working, sleeping, working and sleeping. After finishing the artworks for the exhibition, the rest of the process holds nothing creative in it, although getting it all together, somewhat demands it. Iäve been cutting and signing, packing and packing some more. I've brought prints to be framed and got the prints from the frameshop, and packed yet again. I've been writing lists and delivery orders, and yet again more lists, and giro forms and bill, and I have paid bills, and more bills, and I have thought, that this is really where the creativity could do some good - to organize everything in a way that I could pay all my bills. But luckily, the newest one is due only in April, which is the month when the Teos2016 sales clearence will come (taking part to this event was much more successfull than I ever would have thought, and in addition I got some feedback, which themselves, even when they didn't include any purhcases, would have been enough to make taking part worth while!) On Sunday I was packing the whole day, and yesterday I took the exhibition prints travelling to be shipped to Tampere plus I sent some orders by post as well as 10+ prints to Grafoteekki, Helsinki. To reward myself I gave myself a social moment - it has been a long time since the last one: a sushi lunch with a friend, before it was time to continue with searching some goods I still needed for my exhibition set up.

Today I've tried to catch up everything I have ignored during the exhibition preparation. Everything proceeds so slowly, but still it proceeds - and with the Tampere exhibition I'm in no hurry anyway. The packages are on their way, and only the posters are still unfinished. Which I planned to complete tomorrow, on the living room floor, while watching some good tv series on telly.

Ofcourse there actually is the invitations, posters, press materials etc. for the following exhibition (Gallery Napa, Rovaniemi) in my this week's to do list, and after the Tampere exhibition has been opened on Saturday, it all begins all over again... But maybe I'll just stare my almost completed to do list of the Tampere exhibition and float in this wonderful illusion, that all the work is done.

Teos2016 (II)

---

I took a trip to Helsinki. I took my works to Cable Factory, I visited two spaces and photographed them for my future projects, I got my Wood Spirits artworks back home from Rööperin taidesalonki, I took some prints to Grafoteekki and did some material shopping. After this efficient running around I didn't mind at all waiting the train to leave for over half an hour - because it was missing a driver. And I did laugh a bit, when the train conductorness started to sound very tiredly confused in her announces, because the train driver just didn't show up. But luckily someone did take control of the train in some point and we got to leave back home in which we arrived at about ten at the evening. Still I had time to realise that I had lost one whole week somewhere, and trying to find out where that week did go and trying to figure out where fit all those seven days tasks has kept my day today full.

Teos2016

Suomen taidegraafikoiden teosvälitystilaisuus tulossa. Tänään pakkailin teoksia työhuoneella ja melkein sain valmiiksikin päivän urakan, ennenkuin elämä toi pienen mutkan eteen. Jotain pientä jäi tekemättä, mutta tarpeeksi ehdin tehdä kuitenkin ja TEOS 2016 -tapahtumaan teokset pakattua, ja illan aikana ympäröivä elämäkin on taas asettunut uudelleen uomilleen. Helsinkiä kohti siis.

The annual art sales event of the prints is taking place soon. Today I packed some of my works at the studio and almost got the project finished, before life took another unexpected turn. I wasn't able to finish it all, but however I made enough, and got those TEOS2016 event artworks packed - and during the evening also the life around me got back to its tracks. So, towards Helsinki.

Hienoutta ja huonoutta / Something good, something bad

Tuulenvire oksien välissä - A Breeze Among the Branches, 2014

---

I wish I could share all the nice things, that have happen. The magnitude of these Great Things might probably be somehow understood, if I tell, that a 1000 euro grant from the local Arts Council is not the biggest thing happening right now!

And I wish I could just pour out all the s**t that has been happening. I won't even give an example of one.

So, the balance is about even.

Today I finally got to pick up the invitation cards to Tampere exhibition and I sent them to the Gallery rightaway by post. I still should write a press release of he exhibition, and then all the preparation stuff (paperwise) would be finished. I've spent a few days writing grant applications, also keeping my books and budgets balance - I've spent my time in all those paper works which are gathering rust upon my everyday life. I wish I could get to do creative work again, and hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to. If I still obey myself today and keep a strick discipline on finishing all the paper work stuff listed, there's some hope. I've marked today to be my last day as a office worker, but still the finishing line seems to be so very far away... I'm wondering if I'm able to.

Julisteesta / About the poster

---

One year from now, I'm planning to have an exhibition, which is propably the most meaningful for myself so far, and because of that I had to plan this year so that I could manage all the extra thingies (like writing press releases, making posters and exhibition invitations, and all the stuff connected with exhibition planning). So I could have maximum time for my creative work. (And also some room with my financial situation - here I am using the last coins from my wallet). I started to think, that why wouldn't I make the exhibition posters in a similar way that the bands used to (maybe they still do?): leaving an empty space on the bottom of the poster, so you could then write something into it.

Now, here I am planning a template, that could work for several exhibitions, and to which I could in some, still mysterious, way to attach the exhibition info. Still I have to consider if the cut and glue system is sensible enough. It's obvious, that you really can't place the info into the paper so beautifully as I wish (with no A3 printer in use), and also, it then takes time to print those infos and glue them on. But then again, not so much more than remaking the poster for each exhibition, uploading the poster each time separately to the printer, taking the time for going to view the proof, and then getting the prints from the print house, each time. And also, a lot money can be saved.

Still in process, but getting there...

Hiljaista pakertamista // Slow, Silent Working

Silti erilaisia deadlineja on jo melkein sata.

---

I'm receiving several event invitations each day, and to most of them I don't even manage to react, before they are already over. I have several time consuming projects going on, which would just about consume all the time that I'd let to be consumed. I have a somewhat easy mind with my organizer skills: when planning exhibitions, I have totally lost my artist muffler and put on my power producer scarf.

Of all my small efforts to boost my activities, I'm most proud of my new schedules and budgeting systems. When, last autumn, I realised how full this year is with bits and bobs, I created one total budgeting system (instead of several exhibition cost budgets) and it has proven to be a unbelievable good tool with the big picture. I have also made different schedules before, but now I've managed to create a mega schedule with all deadlines listed and colour coded, and with meta info included, so that I don't really have to look info from anywhere else. Of course, after the input of all the deadlines in the calendar table I had some kind of choking reflex, when the continuing list of the deadline dates seemed to be just endless - but then I realised, that of course it looks like that because all the "ordinary" days have been left out.

Still, there are almost hundred deadlines already. That is, one in three days, approximately. I'm using all my strength not to thing about the fact, that it is only the second month of the year, and only a tiny part of the deadlines of this years projects are marked on my calendar. I just hope that the power producer in me doesn't take too long coffee breaks - or somehow get the idea to have a long leave.

Kirjoitellen ja väritellen // Writing and Colouring

Nimi on hakusessaan edelleen.

I've started each morning with a long breakfast, colouring my own colouring book at the same time, approximately one picture per day. A wonderfully slow and easing beginning before the working day. After breakfast I've spent my days with my fingers on keyboard, pushing a letter after letter. The wordy project of last week was about the small booklet about colour and chemistry, which I wrote last autumn with a grant, and which I try to edit now, at the same time when I'm making a plan for illustrations and write some captions for pictures. The title of the book is still unclear. I thought that I would finish the raw layout of the booklet before I'll send my grant report, so I can attach some visible results to it, but the electric publication of the booklet will propably take until the end of the very busy spring. (After the raw layout is finished, the booklet will then go to the fact checking round). It takes time, because I have added again some new distraction to my life - which will hopefully turn out to be a constructive operator in my life later.

I thought that I concentrated on writing the whole last week, but I just noticed, that at the same time I have made several sketches for my new artworks and many of the artworks in process just took a clearer form in my head. It feels somewhat crazy, that when I didn't concentrate on my visual art work at all during the last week (except for the daily ice photo sessions), I propably achieved more with the preparing work that I did last year in many months.

If I continue like this, I hope to get some projects also finished soon.

Jääleikit jatkuvat // The Icy Play Continues

A few days ago I remembered seeing a piece of rusted iron stuck into the shore of the lake a few years back. I remembered how the strong red colouring looked when viewed through the ice. So I decided to add some red iron oxide to my icy soup, using both aquarell paint and powdered pigment. And then I have just taken photos, again and again, except in one grey day, where there just wasn't enough light. Today I started to add thin layers of water, a new layer after another frozen one, and maybe I'll tint some of those layers at some point. I'll continue this frozen gardening at least still tomorrow. Luckily it seems, that the weather just gets colder, so I'll have some good frozen days ahead.

Jään kauneus / The Beauty of the Ice

Koko syksyn odotin pakkasta, jotta pääsisin toteuttamaan hiljalleen materiaalikuvauksia ensi vuoden tammikuun näyttelyäni varten.

---

The whole autumn I waited for the frost to come, so that I could start taking "material" photos for my exhibition next January (2017). During the last winter I took photos of the frozen balcony window to be used in my future artworks, but somehow the result was not quite what I was seeking for, so I had to wait to another year to continue with my project. I was impatient enough to freeze water in my freezer already during last autumn, but it froze in very different manner, and there was not space enough in our small freezer to get what I wanted. Now, right after it went below zero, I changed the balcony into some kind of ice laboratory (like there wasn't enough coldness around our house before that, especially when our radiators don't seem to warm enough.)

Each day I have taking photos for those couple of hours when the sun is up (I really don't want to use any artificial lightning to this project, when even my day light special light fixture won't create same kind of light that the outside dimmed and blurry and cold winter light is). I've kept a warming pause when the camera has stopped working because of the cold, and I've had to wait until it works again. This maybe doesn't do any good to its battery, but it does do some good to mine, to my mind. I've been following how the small change in light fast affects to the tones of these ice photos: in midday photos blue takes over, but just an half an hour later the colour scheme is all too different.

When I have been taking photos I haven't been taking care of the technique or even focusing, because I won't be exhibiting the photos as themselves, but they are just mere building blocks to my future artworks, among dozens of other building blocks. Even then there is some kind of hidden sceneries in almost every shoot - the sea shores, mountains and forests depicted - and even the unfocused snapshots turn out to be image surfaces that you can just watch to forget the time. To me this kind of photosessions are like meditation, when the worries about the tight schedule of the spring and the too rapid emptying of my bank account can be forgot, and I just get absorbed in these pictures, which are almost like some kind of visual poems to me.

Plankkon kuukauden teos / The Artwork of the Month

Teokseni Kyynelpuun taimi (2013) on Plankkon kuukauden teoksena. Lue teoksen taustasta Plankkon nettisivuilta.

---

My print The Seedling of the Tree of Tears (2013) is Plankko Artwork of the Month in January 2016. I have written a short story about it in the Plankko webpage (in Finnish), here's a rough translation:

The Seedling of the Tree of Tears is an artwork that I can't get out of my system (and I don't know how to and don't really want that to happen). The work was finished in the beginning of 2013, that is about exactly three years ago, but it is still as current to me as it was when I made it.

The Seedling of the Tree of Tears follows thematicly the Fruits of the Tree of Tears trilogy, which was finished a year earlier, and these works and all the future artworks on this theme are fruits of the Tree of Tears work, still unfinished - it is my ongoing project, which I had planned to be rather big sized and which I have made on and off about ten years. (The theme itself is very clear for me and a general sketch is drawn, but after dozens of testings I still haven't found a right way to finish the work and I still have to make several material tests befgore I find the right way to go on.)

I have planned the whole Tree of Tears theme as a bigger whole, which would be installation-like, or maybe a different kind of garden-like installation at the exhibition. When I have gone round about the theme, I have also started to write a small Teargardener Memo book, to which I have documented my working process during the years, and now and then I have made some notes regarding the Tree of tears, and its seedlings and fruits - facts and fiction generously mixed. When I made the Fruits of the Tree of Tears trilogy in 2012, I actually made it as an illustration to this book, and right after I had printed the series, I realised that I would like to have a different kind of resonance to those other artworks, that would depict the seedlings surrounding the tree of tears. I tried about everything to find the right path. I tried to set up different kind of nursery gardens placing clay pots around here and there, and I tried taking reference phohos of real plants at flower shops and at corners of fields, but nothing seemed to work. In a way I had very clear in my mind what I would like to make, but not clear enough to just replicate the image and atmosphere what I had tattooed in my mind.

Until at the end of summer 2012 we travelled to Florence. The merciless heatwave was scorching the city and media warned about moving outside in midday because of the heat. There was no green anywhere: the sun had burned the grass and tree leaves of the parks to dry and brown, and because there was shortage of water, no plants could be watered. We saw the impact clearly at the botanical garden (Giardino dei Semplici), where the plants were swaying exceptionally colourless and where the grass crunched under our feet, even when the high and bushy trees made some shady shadown to the garden. The most sensitive plants and seedlings had been moven in the chill of the stone building, here and there around concrete wall several plant refugees tried to survive. I was very concentrated on photographing the mesmerizing light, that flowed in between the canvas shreds which covered the windows partly and tried to protect the place from the sun - and then I suddenly realised that I was in the middle of the garden of the trees of tears. There were some clay pots on the window board, that had some moist black soil in them, not scorched by the sun. There were no seedlings of the tree of tears of course, but next to them was a small notebook with some notes in them, just what I had imagined the Teargardener Memo book to be. The afternoon light sifted in in unspeakable manner, and I just saw the works around me, ready to be picked. I took dozens of photos, and one of them gave a life to the first Seedling of the Tree of Tears and ended up printed.

The Seedling of the Tree of Tears was finished as a "single" work, although that wasn't the plan originally: the two sister prints of same size are still waiting to be finished. Right after printing the artwork I had to leave my creative work for a while because of other responsibilities, and after that some other duties have kept me away from my Trees of Tears. But the process hasn't ended. After a three year break I visited the Giardino dei Semplici a second time in 2015, taking photos with a better camera and in a different light. During the autumn 2015 I sorted and indexed the pictures ready for the working process and I drew a significant amount of sketches to the Teargardener Memo book.

I also returned in very concrete way to The Seedling of the Tree of Tears artwork last year, when I had to make the last prints of the series (of edition of 15). Because the colour range of my new inks was a bit different, I had to readjust colours and I had to examine the artwork very closely and as pedanticly as I did when I originally made the artwork. At first repeating the same (different) process mostly irritated me, but after I got to work, I noticed that I'm looking at the artwork in very different way as I did when I made it first time. I found several details which I had forgotten, and I learned to structurise some technical solutions, which inspired to continue the series. I have left the test and colour adjustment prints in my work desk and they are filled with notes for the future. So, the artwork turned to be also my tool for the future works on this theme.

In a way The Seedling of the Tree of Tears is a key work to the whole Tree of Tears entity, in which all the works will follow the visual path this work has built. Then, someday, when it will be finished.

Suuria asioita / Big Things

---

This year has been so full of joy and sorrow and Great Moments in both good and bad (in private life and with my work with art, not to mention what happens in world), that when I have gone to bed I have sometimes wished that absolutely nothing would happen the very next day, nor good or bad things. But in December the things have piled up and many days have included unevenly accelerating and slowing rollercoaster feeling, and so much so, that I've been out of my breath still through my short Christmas holidays. Actually, I had planned to have a bit longer Christmas holidays, but some unexpected stuff happened, which shortened my two-week holidays into two days, and now I'm trying to get myself to do some work, which I promised myself to give up already some time ago. But if the New Year would be finally The Final Finish Line, after which I could concentrate only to my own projects, at least for a while.

Luckily this emotional rollercoaster slowed a bit just a couple of days before Christmas and the car stopped to the top, at least for a moment: the mailman brought me a new book by Sanna Aavaluoma, on the psychotherapeutic care of people suffering from dementia, with the print 191 from the Absent installation on the cover. The theme of the book is very important for me, and seeing my print on the cover, and reading the inscription from the book... it felt it was the most important thing happened to me for a long time. It feels, that in these kind of moments my artwork finds it meaning.

These kind of moments also make something happen in my head. I'm not very sorry about my holidays shortening into two days, because during the last week so many ideas for new art work and both image and material experiments have been flying in my brain, that I would have returned to my work desk anyway before I was originally meant to. Now I just have to run through the sticky obstacle course before I can get to work with my personal projects again. But with this enthusiasm it doesn't seem to be so massive project anymore. And maybe this time I just crawl under the obstacles, or at least won't climb over the highest peak.

Lepopäivä / Rest Day

Kotona laatikoiden purkaminen on jatkunut yhtä hitaan varmalla otteella.

After the Art Bazaar event last weekend it feels like after running a marathon (or so I imagine), and I can only say cliches, like "tired but happy". This year I didn't sell prints as much as in the part years, but I was lucky to have all kinds of small stuff, like postcards and wax pens which helped a lot. A Grand Thank You for all you, who dared to purhase yourself a print, despite the economical situation right now. Though, I told to Jyväskylä Art Museum personnel, that I always have a feeling, that if I just can pay the table price and just some money for pizza in top of that, that is enough with this event (but I'm really happy, that I got a bit more than that pizza money). Somehow in this event I'm not frustrated to stand behind my desk even there would not be any sales, because there are still contacts with visiting people and it's also important to chat with other artists. And after these several years of bazaar event, it has grown to be a landmark for downshifting: after prints and other stuff is taken from their boxed to their own places, it's time to just slow down for a while. The bazaar seems to be always the final big push before the mid winter festivals. A couple of weeks of breathing and then towards the next year, with new thoughts.

Downshifting was already seen today, when I had some time to go and meet my Good Friend in one cafe. Actually, we sat nearly five hours with tee and coffee, chatting about both work and freetime. It was just lovely to just sit without any hurry, rare thing.

At home I have continued emptying the bazaar boxes slowly but surely. I try to convince myself to believe, that now I really don't have any deadline with this and I can unpack in no hurry. Tomorrow I will take some new postcards and wax pens to Becker.

And maybe I watch some telly this evening.

Kotka, Uusikuva

Milloin tällaisesta on tullut todellisuutta?

This is so sad. I just signed an exhibition contract, which says, that because Kotka city (or should I day town) needs to get savings, it has put the space of Gallery Uusikuva on sale, and if the gallery space is sold and the gallery activities ended, that also invalidates / cancels the agreement. When I opened the envelope and read through the agreement, the surrealistic merry-go-round started running in my head. When this kind of activities have taken place in reality?

In this very uncertain financial situation I thought about signing the agreement - can I really engage myself to the exhibition that might never happen: if I want to book a cheap accommodation, I would need to do that in good time, and all those other arrangements and shipping of the artworks will cost a good amount of euros ...and what if I get my artworks there just to notice, that the process has been so fast, that I will be left alone with my artworks in the rain. But then I started to think about the gallery itself, and the people in Kotka. It is a very small town, and apparently there aren't many gallery spaces, so losing Uusikuva will absolutely leave a large whole. I have never visited the gallery on site, but what I've seen in photos, the spaciousness, light and the building itself, are fascinating. It would be regrettable enough to lose the space from gallery use, but if at the same time it will be the end of the whole gallery activities... How much savings could that give? I bet there can be found some big sums on paper, but still I guess that they would be just apparent ones.

Maybe there's still something to be done. The Finnish site addressit.com hosts "Pelastetaan Galleria Uusikuva Kotkassa" -adressi - which means "Save the Gallery Uusikuva in Kotka", where everyone who thinks this is important, can go and sign. Please do.
