TEOS 2017

Timo lähti aamulla viemään teoksiani Helsinkiin, Suomen taidegraafikoiden teosvälitystapahtumaan TEOS 2017 (Kaapelitehtaalla 23.2.-5.3.2017). Itse en kynnelle kyennyt: viimeiset pari viikkoa olen kierinyt kaikenmoisessa kolotuksessa.

Timo left this morning to Helsinki, to take my six artworks to TEOS 2017 event, which is an art sales event organized by the Association of Finnish Printmakers (at the Helsinki Cable Factory February 23 - March 5, 2017). I couldn't leave myself: for the last few weeks I've been aching all over. I had planned to write through the last week and the week before, but still a week ago even the thought about myself sitting in front of computer still was quite unimaginable. Now I've left the worst behind (I like to think so, at least), and I'm moving my fingers upon the keyboard, just a little bit, and just very short sessions. And I even can get a grib on a pencil again. Maybe it's only one week from now, when I can continue my creative work again, with both words and pictures. Until then I'll just hang around and record my spoken thoughts on my tablet. (It's weird to hear one's own, unstructured speech. Only by listening it, you can really understood, how raw are those thoughts where the ideas born from.)

So, I'll recover, and meanwhile I let my artworks do all the work at the TEOS 2017.

Näyttelykauden loppu / The end of the exhibition season

Todellakin: alkuviikolla kävimme Raahessa purkamassa "Missä tuuli lakkasi" -näyttelyn, ja tänään, muutaman tunnin kuluttua, lähden purkamaan Galleria Ratamosta "Kyyneltarha" -näyttelyn. Seuraava yksityisnäyttely on vasta kesäkuussa Joensuussa.

The end of the exhibition season, truly! At the beginning of the week we travelled to Raahe to pack my 'Where the Wind Stopped' exhibition, and today, in a few hours time, I'll leave to Gallery Ratamo to pack my 'The Garden of Tears' exhibiton. My next private exhibition will be in Joensuu, Finland in June. I haven't had this long pause in exhibitions for a long time! Probably for too long time: the tight schedule of the past few years shows itself now in my energy levels, I'm getting slower in everything.

This exhibition pause doesn't translate to holidays, however. After the physical work in a next few days (the exhibition works have to be packed, and then again placed on their shelves at the studio, which is actually surprisingly hard physical work) I will concentrate on other stuff: writing and planning. There will be at least one art sales event in spring, which I will take part to, at least with my artworks if I don't go there myself. I book all the travel tickets, accommodations and other stuff for my following exhibition trips, even there's so much time in between - but they are so much cheaper earlier. And then there is one writing project, which hopefully will be revealed in a few months time. I'm at the finishing line, so I dare to talk about it already.

This all seemed to be an overwhelming list of small tasks still a day before yesterday, but now I feel very positive about everything ahead: there's not really a better job than this!

Yesterday's artist meeting at the Gallery Ratamo was really a very empowering experience. The day didn't start in the best way, and my headache didn't vanish while I was walking from home to the gallery ...instead I got myself soaking wet, as the falling snow wasn't really soft snowy snow, but wet and heavy. I was expecting just a few people to arrive, but instead the gallery was filled with audience. And the atmosphere! I found it quite hard to talk clearly while my headache was pounding, but still I felt that people understood what I told about my Garden of Tears universum. And the most important thing: the people had something to share with me. I've received a lot of feedback - with very personal experiences and stories shared - in my email during this exhibition: stories about crying and tears themselves, and stories which don't have any 'visible' connection to tears. It has been wild (in a good way), but it was much more intensive to hear about the experiences and the stories and memories evoked by my artworks live, face to face. Both good and bad, positive and negative, but several people mentioned the 'cleansing' effect that the exhibition had on them. I've received that kind of feedback earlier too, but never in this scale, and not in this way, effecting me so deeply.

Then, after everything, I got to see my friend, who lives in Paris, after a long time. A short visit, but so refreshing!

A good reminder for myself: if my day doesn't have a good start, it all can still turn upside down during the day.
